Six shopping centers provide local shopping
opportunities. Regional shopping malls are located in
Fayetteville, Wilmington, Goldsboro and Raleigh and
serve customers from the Clinton area. Health care for
our citizens is provided locally at Sampson Regional
Hospital. Originally constructed in 1950, the hospital
has undergone a series of expansion and renovation
programs. The most recent was a two million dollar
cancer treatment center. A comprehensive program of
medical services is available at the 156 – Beaman Street
facility, which is fully accredited by the Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. A board of
trustees, representing the entire county directs the
overall operation of the hospital.
Public health needs are met by the Sampson County Health
Department. Mental health and mental retardation
services are provided by the county’s mental health
center.
Clinton NC residents are fortunate in that they
have access to two nationally recognized medical
facilities. North Carolina Memorial Hospital, which is a
part of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill
and Duke University Medical Center in Durham, are both
less than two hours drive. Nursing home care and rest
home care are available in the Clinton area with
referrals being made by the local hospital as well as
other medical service providers. Additionally, housing
is available for the elderly who do not require a
structured living situation.
The City of Clinton NC is
constantly looking for ways to enhance the quality of
life for our citizens. The tree-lined streets throughout
the City will impress a first-time visitor.
Additionally, there is evidence of pride in beautifully
landscaped homes and community recreation areas.
Traditionally a city of single-family dwellings, Clinton
now has modern apartment and condominium complexes.
Pride in ownership of our older well-kept homes is
evidences through the designation of two historic
districts to the National Register of Historic
Places. The Clinton City School System serves 6,500
pupils in a network of two elementary schools, one
middle school and one high school. All of the schools
are fully accredited by the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools. The Clinton area has easy access
to a number of institutions of higher education.
Sampson Community College, a part of the North
Carolina Community College System, is located in the
western part of the city. Four other units of the state
community college system are within an hour’s drive from
Clinton. Additionally, four senior colleges are also
within an hour’s drive from Clinton. These include:
Fayetteville State University, Campbell University in
Buies Creek and Mt. Olive College in Mt. Olive. Numerous
other graduate and under-graduate programs are offered
at the military bases in nearby

offer special training programs for local industries.
